Enjoy the Beautiful Gardens of Magnolia Plantation
Magnolia Plantation is the original ancestral home of the Drayton family. Today the plantation is home to the 11th generation of Draytons. It is believed that no other plantation in this state is still under original family ownership from such an early date.
Over 30 acres of Gardens grace the estate, making Magnolia the oldest major public Garden in America. The Plantation Foundation supports animal welfare, conservation, education, and historic preservation groups. Experts state, "it is the most beautiful garden in the world". Miles of bike and walking trails wind through diverse habitats. Experience plantation life by visiting a restored slave cabin (ca 1840) and a large Native American ceremonial mound. Horticultural highlights include a Biblical Garden, and Herb Garden, a Camellia Garden, and the Barbados Tropical Garden. Children will enjoy the Maze and the Petting Zoo.
Tours of the Plantation House showcase the Drayton's collection of early-American antiques, porcelain, quilts, and other heirlooms. The Nature Train or the Nature Boat will transport you to another time and place in natural history and the wildlife that calls Magnolia home. Rich in history, floral beauty and the wonder of nature, Magnolia has earned a reputation as the South's Complete Plantation Experience.
